Reality Rounds is a health topics blog that serves to bring the “reality” to health topics as they relate to everyday life.  Health stories will be rounded on to give a diagnosis in reality.  Media stories that are barely hanging on to the edges of reality, will have a “Code Bullshit” called.   Reality Rounds is written by a nurse/mom , for who better to cut through the BS of health care  and life,than the professionals who do it for a living.  Nurses and Moms!  My focus is mostly on women’s and infant health issues, parenthood, and feminism, but all areas of health care and nursing will be covered.

About the Author

Started out as a Candy Striper in an inner city hospital run by nuns, that was across the street form my high school, which was run by nuns.  Working at Holy Family Cross of the Bleeding Heart Sisters of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception….(insert any Catholic name) led to the natural progression of my next job:

Sex Educator. Taught college students all about safe sex and handed out free condoms from a fish bowl.  Also worked part time in the very busy campus Gyne clinic.  College students are very randy.  This led to:

Nurse Internship at one of the premier research hospitals in the world. ( Hint:  It’s a condiment that isn’t ketchup, mustard or miracle whip.) This led to:

Nurse’s Aid Position at a very large Neuro trauma and stroke step-down unit in a very large teaching hospital.  This led to:

Staff Nurse on night shift of a very large neonatal intensive care unit in another very large teaching hospital.  This led to :

Many other positions that have included:  nurse manager, nurse educator, agency nurse, clinical nurse specialist, etc.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Masters of Science in  Nursing, Specialty Certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing.
