Friday Fun Fact: Hump Day!
Posted by realityrounds on January 29, 2010
The most “popular” day in the United States to give birth is (drum roll please)…………Wednesday! Wonder why that is? Hmmmm. What sucks is I work every Wednesday, and it is always crazy busy on Wednesdays. Now I know why. The least “popular” day in the United States to give birth is (drum roll please)……….Sunday! Wonder why that is? Hmmmm.
On a side note, I thought is was kinda cool that super model Giselle Bundchen gave birth to her first-born at home, in her bathtub. I wonder if there is a higher rate of homebirths for celebrities. It must be very intimidating for them to give birth in a hospital, with paparazzi and stalkers waiting in the wings. I would also be worried about an unscrupulous health care worker leaking my info to the press, or posting a sneaky picture of me crowning on Facebook. Anyway, just thought it was a cool story.
Have a great weekend!

I guess I missed the boat. Both my boys were on thursday, interestingly enough. (The first being after a two day induction->c-section, the second after two days of easy early labor then a quick 4hr finish)
Congrats to Giselle.
I had not considered those reasons for homebirthing as a celebrity. Interesting thought! I would definitely not want to risk some stupid paparazzi running me off the road while in labor!

Jill,
You get major props for being the first to utter the word “straddle” in the comments section. For this I applaud you! :0

I’ve noticed that our busy days tend to be Wednesdays and Thursdays.

My son was born on a Sunday. Guess I’m just a rebel.
My husband worked a couple hours away from home during the week when I was pregnant with my son. I would only have Braxton Hicks contractions during the weekends leading up to his birth. Indeed I started labor early on Saturday morning.
I always wonder if there are any psychological factors determining the start of labor. Although I’m sure the hospital schedules have more of an influence!

Gosh I can’t think straight today meant to say :
**during the final weeks when I was pregnant with my son.

I had figured Mondays were the most popular as so many women seem to get admitted on a Sunday for induction, and pitocin started on Monday morning. Out of 4 babies, though, I have had 1 Wednesday birth.
Interesting thought on the celebrities home birthing. Seems like a better choice than showing up to the hospital and having the press staking out your room!

Wednesday’s child is full of woe. Remember that poem? Now I understand why. They have to compete for attention at the get go.

I wonder how much of that is due to induction. Morgan, the last induction I was a doula for started on a Sunday and she delivered on a Wednesday. If you induce vaginal deliveries early in the week, and schedule cesareans on Wednesdays, then you can deal with the acute complications before the weekend. I think many physicians put aside Wednesdays as their day to do procedures.
As for the celebrities, I think they have more choices and flexibilities in some ways, and less in others. They have the funds to have a home birth. I know at one point Angelina had a obstetrician on retainer who flew with her out of the country, and was going to attempt a water birth (why not choose a midwife, then? But, I digress). The baby was breech, and she ended up opting for a cesarean, and then she had twins, which I assume were cesarean, also. But, if I could afford to fly an obstetrician around the world with me, I wouldn’t mind the paparazzi so much. But, then again, no one is trying to snap pictures of me, dressed or not.
