Brush with Greatness! RR gets a Tweet from Ricki Lake!
Posted by realityrounds on September 13, 2009
Ah, the simple pleasures in life. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that Ricki Lake linked one of my posts on her Twitter account. Isn’t the internet amazing? Thanks for the shout out Ricki. (on a weird side note, my cousin went to college with Ricki, which I just found out on Facebook….small world).
I have not had many Brushes with Greatness in my life. Way back in the early 90′s I was driving my Hyundai Excel down a famous road in the US. Who pulls up beside me in a Dodge Viper (at least I think it was a Dodge Viper) but…wait for it…….Danny Bonaduce! (You were thinking George Clooney, weren’t ya?). I rolled down my window and asked if he wanted to drag race. He laughed and sped away so fast I was left to inhale gasoline vapors. Sigh…another one that got away.
Anyone else have any “Brush with Greatness” stories? (*warning to medical professionals, anything that violates HIPAA will be deleted!).

No brushes with greatness here. I’m not cool. I did link my blog to Ricki Lake’s website once when discussing the perils of full assist breastfeeding on post-partum.
I printed out your Suck post and hung it in the bathroom at work the other day. Now you are famous at my little community hospital.

That means much more to me than the Ricki Lake shout-out (sorry Ricki!). Thanks so much. I hope it gives some entertainment during your staff nurses’ “breaks” in the bathroom

I think we might possibly have seen Eric Estrada in a Vegas hotel a few years ago
We both just stood there and watched him walk away.

Ohhh, it would be very intimidating to ask “Ponch” for an autograph!

As close to greatness as I get is when my little brother (probably around 7-8, making me 9-10) was not paying attention at the grocery store and rammed a shopping car into the governor.

I shook hands with Magic Johnson at an amusement park when I was 10-12 years old. He was surrounded by a bunch of little kids. That’s what’s nice about being a kid — you can get away with a lot more than adults.

I’ve been in the same room with Madonna AND Mikhail Baryshnikov ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS! I also saw Uma Thurman with her kids on the street in NYC a few months ago. And I caught a baby of someone who is on TV this fall. HIPAA is killing me right now! (Especially since I know he’d be fine with me saying who he is!)
I also have been told that my blog posts have found their way to the staff bulletin board or bathroom stall wall in hospitals. I think that’s cooler than the brushes with greatness (or just celebrity.)

Darn HIPAA! Those are some serious celebrities you have met. I’m jealous.

Perhaps you would like to know that I was an extra in the stellar made-for-TV movie “Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills.” You’re actually have a brush with greatness RIGHT NOW.
Breathe it in.

Jill,
I’m not worthy! On a weird side note, I was supposed to be filmed giving advice on how to set up a nursery for some Disney affiliate this week. Alas, they decided to use a pediatrician before I was ever filmed. *and I had my Academy speech all memorized…sigh.

I was really excited when you commented on my blog once! So that was my brush with greatness! I really like your blog even though I don’t comment too much.
